drawing how we feel...

Kindergarten has been experimenting with Choice centers by focusing on an element of art, or on a special theme for the day. This gives them a good intro to using the different centers, and time to experiment with what each material does. 

Our most recent artwork was all about how we feel. First we read "My Many Colored Days" by Dr. Seuss, and talked about how we can make the artwork feel a special way just by using colors! Students gave examples of how each color makes them feel... and we talked about how it can be different for each person. 

Next, I challenged our little artists to create an artwork, using the drawing and/or collage center, that shows how they were feeling that day ; and, the Kinder's were SO thoughtful about the feelings and colors that they showed in their artworks! Check 'em out:

express yourself...

Paulding Elementary Fourth Graders are spending the year learning about different styles of art!

We started out with Fauvism, and this project brought us up close and personal with Expressionism...

The fabulous fourth graders studied lots of different examples of expressionistic artwork,

but looked a little closer at Edvard Munch's "The Scream". 

We created our own Expressionism Paintings by first drawing the main outlines 

of the bridge, water, and sky on our paper. The paper started with a hole in the bottom right for the students face to fit in, so we had to talk about overlapping, and how the body and head should look like it was in front of the bridge and water. 

Some classes had time to glue yarn down over their lines to add some texture to their final paintings!

The fourth graders were supposed to have an emotion that they wanted to portray in mind before they started drawing, so that their lines and colors were expressive of that feeling.
