Second and Third graders ended the year learning about texture!

We talked about the difference between Tactile and Visual Texture, looked at a bunch of examples, and then got to work! Their only direction was to show me either visual or tactile texture (or both!), and they had a choice of drawing, collage, paint and craft centers. And the third graders were thrilled to be able to use the clay center for this project, as well.

Paulding Elementary Fourth Graders are spending the year learning about different styles of art!

We started out with Fauvism, and this project brought us up close and personal with Expressionism...

The fabulous fourth graders studied lots of different examples of expressionistic artwork,

but looked a little closer at Edvard Munch's "The Scream". 

We created our own Expressionism Paintings by first drawing the main outlines 

of the bridge, water, and sky on our paper. The paper started with a hole in the bottom right for the students face to fit in, so we had to talk about overlapping, and how the body and head should look like it was in front of the bridge and water. 

Some classes had time to glue yarn down over their lines to add some texture to their final paintings!

The fourth graders were supposed to have an emotion that they wanted to portray in mind before they started drawing, so that their lines and colors were expressive of that feeling.

The first graders have been learning about TEXTURE! 

First we played the Texture Game with a video I found here. 

(Thanks MiniMatisse... the kiddos loved this, and I don't think they'll ever forget the terms!)

This helped give the students an introduction to the terms tactile texture, and visual texture. 

You're fantastic first grader should be able to tell you that... 

Visual Texture is texture you can SEE!

and

Tactile Texture is texture you can TOUCH!

Next, they got to make some tactile texture using paper sculpture. 

Each student got to choose their color, and their challenge was to tear, or cut out, a line or a shape, and then repeat that all over their small square base. By doing so, they created a tactile texture!
